Essay

The thesis is a linguistic-historiographic study of the development of the morphological forms and categories of the noun, from Old-Russian through to the recent East-Slavic languages, based on numerous works by Ukrainian and Russian linguists of 1870s. - 1930-s. The study analyzes the respective linguists' claims concerning the causes and laws of language evolution in general, and specific linguistic changes in particular, as well as parts of speech and the principles of their classification, the quantitative growth of analytical forms in East-Slavic languages, grammar form theory, and the hierarchy of the sources of linguistic-genetic studies.
