Khadzhyohlova O. Linguocultural conditionality of musical instruments' categorization in the consciousness of speakers of different languages

The thesis deals with the results of a psycholinguistic experiment that was conducted with bearers of six different cultures and languages (Ukrainian, Russian, Polish, Crimean Tatar, English and American). We managed to make a conclusion about the constituents of the category of musical instruments that may be universal and culturally conditioned. The research shows that in the modern globalized world the bearers of different cultures and languages imagine the nucleus of the investigated category almost in the same way (the guitar, the violin, the piano and the drums are the prototypical elements of the category) though we may state that the linguocultural conditionality is observed in the zone which is close to the nucleus of the category and at the periphery too
