The thesis covers a problem of well placement optimization as a part of an efficient system of oil and gas field development using reservoir simulation. Feasibility of cumulative production surface for targeting of design wells is justified. Information confidence factor of reservoir model is proposed, which determines the contribution of designed well schema into the total information value of the field development process. Comprehensive applications of technical and economic criteria as well as information confidence criterion are considered to solve the problem of optimal well placement. A fast algorithm, technique (3S optimization) and software tools are developed, which allow reservoir engineer to determine rational well number and well placement schema on the reservoir grid using single run of reservoir simulator.
