Garbar L. Ukrainian public figures and their contribution to development of the library science (1918-1941)

Dissertation is dedicated to a research of the figures of library science and their contribution to library science in the period of 1918-1941. Over 500 individuals that worked in the library system are identified, specifically the original circle of figures who have set initial guidelines for library science. Among them there were academicians, professors of universities and seminaries, teachers and pupils of different pre-revolution institutions of higher learning and schools, political and state figures, librarians with humanities and natural science education, and prominent figures of public education movement. A special attention is paid to the contribution of the National Library of Ukraine being a main scientific center of Ukraine to the evolution of library institution and library science, and the Academy dignitaries; also emphasized are the certain stages of its development, principal scientists of the National Library of Ukraine and subjects of their research. Proposition is made to create a bio-bibliographic dictionary of the Ukrainian figures of library science of ХХ century.
