Essay

The dissertation is a complex historical and archeological research of the local group of steppe Scythians, who inhabited the Dnieper River over-rapids region. All stages of a half-settled population's formation in the early Iron Age (the end of VI century - the beginning of the III century BC) in the region of Dnieper River rapids were traced. All types of archeological sites like ancient settlement and villages, burial mounds sanctuaries and river crossings were studied. It was also defined that archeological sites belonged to a separate ecological-economic region with its economic center in Sovutinske gorodishe (Sovutinske site). The economic basis of this community was cattle breeding combined with primitive agriculture. The main social groups are also shown. It is proved that the population of the region by its cultural-archeological characteristics answers the description of Scythian tribe - scythians georga-borysfenits- mentioned in the written sources.
