Essay

The dissertation deals with the problem of training teachers to develop health preserving competence of the students. Current status of this problem was analyzed in the scientific literature together with its development in the history of educational process. The essence of the basic concepts and their meanings are clarified. The structural scheme of health preserving competence of students is composed. It consists of value-motivational, contextual, active, personal and reflexive components. Comprehensive monitoring of health preserving activities in secondary schools indicates insufficient readiness of teachers to this particular kind of activity. The model and the author's training program for teachers in post-graduate teachers education is to develop competence of health preservation among secondary school pupils. The structure of teacher commitment to this activity is stated and the criteria, indicators and levels of formation are implied. The program of author's course "teachers training targeted to develop the health preserving competence of students". All the necessary materials and exercise-books were designed and experimentally tested. Implementation of the author's course in postgraduate education system shows the effectiveness of its use.
