Essay

Thesis is devoted to the research of general geographical maps which was conducted during 1919-1939 by Polish, Romanian, Czech and USSR cartographic and geodetic services on the western territories. It was determined that the main areas of cartographic and geodetic services of the mentioned above countries were: reprinting of the existing general geographical maps, made up by various publishers in different period of time, updating the contents of maps, existing under the condition of the area and period of their creation, the development of new cartographic works with general geographical content on the basis of surveying. A direct connection between the peculiarities and the directions of the general geographical mapping on the western territories in the interwar period is established. The results are represented by quantitative and qualitative characteristics of general geographical maps of different scales that cover the western territory in accordance with the directions and mapping features. The practical use of the existing maps is possible, particularly in the medium of computer informational system, the creation of which is substantiated by methodological principles (sufficient completeness, uniqueness information, data mining, reliability and dynamic) that define its functionality.
