Essay

The dissertation is devoted to systematization and historic-cultural interpretation of a case study of Cherneliv-Ruskiy burial ground of the Chernyakhiv culture. Burial ground that was laid at the end of stage C1a or at the beginning of stage C1b (late first quarter of the 3rd century) had functioned till the end of stage D1 or beginning of stage D2 and extinct at the beginning of the 5th century. This burial ground is prominent for domination of inhumations, which marks it out from the majority of bi-ritual Cherniakhiv burial grounds. The author elaborated classification of inhumations of the Cherneliv-Ruskiy burial ground and singled out 18 variants of inhumation burials that represent main ritual-ceremonial groups of population, which created the burial ground. This case study demonstrates the coexistence of representatives of several ethnic and cultural traditions. The author singled out the Wielbark, Przeworsk (Central-European), "Dnister", "Danube", and "Sarmatian" cultural components, which came in contact and interact with each other.
