The thesis is devoted to the phenomenon of the electronic musical instruments in the modern sociocultural environment. The main trends of musical culture in the context of globalization are observed, culture-formative role and functions of the musical industry and phonographic technologies are defined. The author introduces the term "phonographic culture" for the purpose of defining the artificial sound environment. The structure and functions of the mentioned phenomenon are researched. The phenomenon of musical instrument is observed in the context of post-neoclassical scientific field, the original corporeal concept of the evolution of musical instruments is proposed. Three main categories of the electronic musical instruments are researched: electromechanical, photo-electronic and synthesizers. The concept of timbre space is substantiated, the evolution of its structure in the context of historical development of the musical instruments is researched. The new model of the interaction between the musician and the instrument is described. The phenomenon of electronic musical instruments is interpreted as a new form of interaction between audio and visual arts. The author defines how electronic musical instruments affected the academic and non-academic musical practices.
