Essay

The thesis is devoted to the study of nature of the foreign policy identity as a complex political and social phenomenon based on the analysis of groundwork of the international relations theory which focuses on this category as an integral characteristic of states and supranational actors of international relations. Following the postulates of social constructivist studies of international relations that fully reflect the interdependence between political and social areas which the actors of international relations act in, the author defines the foreign policy identity as the bilaterally directed phenomenon based on the social constructs and mutual interactions taking place within the global political space. The intersubjective nature of the foreign policy identity is explained through the constitutive role of recognition by the Other every actor needs to build and support its single We-feeling inside the determined borders. The latter is grounded on the sense of similarity regarding certain individual features to characterize some people as a group. Accordingly, the consideration of a group as a homogeneous formation makes possible to constitute its collective identity within the actor's borders. On the other hand, the formation of the foreign policy identity is impacted by intersubjective structures within the exogeneous dimension that can be explained through the concept of recognition.
