Lifanova E. The formation and development of the city's image by the local governments

Conceptual and methodological principles of formation and development of cities' images are formulated and grounded in the thesis. The principles are implemented by the local authorities to increase the cities' competitiveness by introducing the comprehensive program to form the image of Dnipropetrovs'k, considering its external, internal and latent components, which comprise the following: complex understanding the city image; creating the model for the formation of the city image; identifying appropriate "feedback" channels with the users of the image information. The main directions of the activity of the local self-government bodies aimed at the city image building and finding the ways for railing this activity within the strategy of the city development were established. The formation and development of the positive city image demand the complex approach; historical events, short-term as well as medium-term and long-term prospects for the city development are being taken into account. The program for the positive city image is proposed to be realized in three directions, i.e. informational, factual and infrastructural. The following to the code of corporate and social responsibility of the local self-government bodies has to facilitate this process.
