The problem of application of the games as the means of forming subject skills of the pupils of the seventh and eighth forms in the process of teaching history is investigated in the dissertation. The conceptual research system is disclosed, classification characteristics and peculiarities of using the didactic games in the process of teaching history according to the conditions of the introduction of the personally orientated, competence and pragmatist approaches to teaching are analyzed in the research work. Special features of the methods of forming cognitive skills as the component of the subject competence in the process of teaching history are revealed. According to the historically systematic traditions the analysis of the available experience of using didactic games in the process of teaching history with a view to form pupil's subject skills is accomplished. The methods of the application of the games as the means of forming subject skills in the process of teaching history are substantiated theoretically and examined experimentally. The research results permit to ascertain the methods of the application of the games at the lessons of History as the means of forming subject skills in the process of teaching history of the pupils of the seventh and eighth forms as effective.
