Taranenko S. Massive construction of Kyiv Podil and its planning structure

The dissertation deals with the description and complex analysis of the elements of massive construction and planning structure that were found in Kyiv Podil. The most important tool that was used in this study is a digital map of Podil. It contains the plans of excavation sites that include the elements of massive construction and planning structure. This analysis confirmed the impact of a landscape to formation of the street network. The database led to a reconstruction of the borders of posad that made possible calculations of the maximal size of Podil that approximately reached 150 ha. The digital map allowed the analysis of location of the streets and roads within the street network in Podil in 10-13 century. Comparative analysis of this network and streets and roads of the 19 century confirmed that the later system was associated with the earlier one. Available data allowed the calculations of the average size of the homestead that reached 220 - 450 square meters. Excavations of the wooden and stone churches in Kyiv Podil in 2000es allowed the reconstruction of the logic of location of the sacred objects within posad.
