Essay

The thesis is devoted to the consideration of the folk choreography in contemporary socio-cultural environment of Ukraine. It reveals the role of the national as a basic component of Ukrainian folk choreographic art. The place of folk dance in the national culture system is determined as well as its role in the formation, preservation and transmission of the national cultural values. Based on the theory of generations of Strauss-Howe it is clarifying the concept of "value" in the context of folk choreographic art study. According to the theory of generations, which indicates the variability and cyclic nature of basic values of society, the paper defines socio-cultural functions of Ukrainian folk dance, highlights the current state and depicts perspectives of preservation and transmission of national cultural values by means of choreography. It outlines the role of festival movement and choreographic education as a means of representing and updating of national cultural values and mentions the role of the individual as an effective factor of the development of Ukrainian folk choreography.
