Essay

The influence of different methods of anesthesia on the stress response, hemodynamic and cognitive function was evaluated in postoperative period in 105 patients with scoliosis deformity. Patients were divided into 2 groups. In group I (n=53) patients obtained intramuscular injection of promedol. In group II (n=52) prolonged epidural analgesia was used. Stress markers, level of pain according to VAS, hemodynamic and cognitive function (Luria and Luscher tests) were studied in 4 stages (before surgery and on the 1st, 3rd and 7th day after surgery). Lower intensity of stress response was found in prolonged EA group. The study of hemodynamic showed that the HR was the most labile marker on the day after surgery. EA had less influence on cognitive function in postoperative period. VAS pain level in the postoperative period was significantly lower in EA group. Patients who underwent prolonged EA had the advantage in activity and length of hospital stay.
