Object - English sociocultural competence of students majoring in languages. Purpose - theoretically ground and practically verify the methodology of developing sociocultural competence of students majoring in languages by means of English folklore. Methods - theoretical, empitical, statistic. Theoretical results and novelty - the methodology of developing sociocultural competence of students majoring in languages by means of English folklore has been scientifically grounded for the first time and elaborated; the essence of the phenomenon 'sociocultural competence of students majoring in languages by means of English folklore' has been revealed; the essence of English folklore has been described; the genres and linguistic characteristics of English folklore have been determined; the linguo-didactic model of developing sociocultural competence of students majoring in languages by means of English folklore; the criteria (cognitive and linguistis, sociocultural, methodological) and evaluative indicators of evaluation of the level of development of sociocultural competence of students majoring in languages by means of English folklore have been developed; the levels (high, sufficient, satisfactory, low) of development of sociocultural competence of students majoring in languages by means of English folklore have been defined. Practical results - a study guide 'English folklore as means of developing sociocultural competence of future foreign languages teachers' and guidelines for developing sociocultural competence by means of English folklore have been developed. Efficiency of introduction is high. Branch - pedagogical, higher educational establishments.
