The thesis is the theoretical and experimental investigation of an actual problem of methods of lingual-communicative academic adaptation of the 1-st year foreign students of non-philological specialities during learning Russian as a second language. The modern situation in scientific learning of the adaptation problems has been considered. The meaning of the concept "level of ability of foreign students to use the second language" has been determined. Academic adaptation and academic adaptability of the 1-st year foreign students have been defined. Invariant and variant components of the Competence portrait of foreign matriculants and the stages of academic adaptation have been described.
