Vorona I. The functioning of the church and religious terms-synonyms in the Ukrainian liturgical texts.

The thesis deals with the study of the church and religious terms-synonyms functioning in the Ukrainian religious books, liturgics, and sermons. Comprehensive approach to the study of synonymy in the church and religious terminology, implemented in the thesis, is based on the theoretical statements and methodological principles of modern linguistics. Both extra- and intralinguistic factors influencing the formation of synonymy in the church and religious terminology system have been found. The synonymous relations within the church and religious terminology have been considered. Various types of terminological synonyms and peculiarity of their use in the church and religious books, liturgics, and sermons have been determined and studied on the basis of the available material analysis (card index includes more than 3000 terms); the main functions of the church and religious terms-synonyms in the text have been identified; the role of the periphrases in sermon texts has been determined.
