The dissertation examines the formation of Ukrainian national style of church music in the 1920ies. Its genre priorities and stylistic features are highlighted through the example of the Kyiv choir school's oeuvre. General cultural and personal factors that contributed to a vivid expression of national foundations of liturgical music are found. The role of emancipatory movement for autocephaly of Ukrainian Church (1918-1927) is revealed; its influence on the formation of basic principles of the Ukrainian Church is described. Through analysis of church music of J. Yatsynevych, P. Demutsky, P. Kozytsky, J. Stepovyi, P. Goncharov and M. Verykivsky the genre priorities are revealed and common stylistic elements are explored that were distinctive for the period. The correspondence measure between the sacred dramaturgy of canonical genres and the semantic of the works of the a for ecited composers is determined. The position of non-canonical genres and paraliturgic repertoire in a total genre palette is defined. The Ukrainian church music of the second decade of the 20th century is justified as a holistic artistic phenomenon of Ukrainian musical culture, the development of which was intermitted by the untoward ideological conditions, and continued in the creative work of Ukrainian composers of the 1960ies and the composers of expatriate Ukrainian community. Keywords: Ukrainian church music, representatives of the Kiev choir school, genres and style of liturgical music, liturgy, church emancipatory movement, "preaching celebration", paraliturgic.
