Object: teaching physics at the agricultural colleges; goal: theoretically base and develop the meaning , methods, means and forms of teaching physics that are aimed at the development of the design and research competence of students at the agricultural colleges; methods the analysis of psycho-pedagogical, educationally-methodical, normative literature, research papers to analyze the problem of formation the design and research competence in students; modeling the method of formation the design and research competence to find ways of integration natural science knowledge with using research and design methods; survey, interviews , observation, the analysis of oral students' answers for studying the experience of schools that are practicing the design and research activity; statistical processing to analyze the index of the pedagogical experiment; novelty: it has been formed the structure of the design and research competence in teaching physics at the agricultural colleges with the identifying principles of selection and coordination of professionally-oriented material with the substantive content of physics ( problem, personal and social significance, availability and heuristic), which allowed to give a concrete meaning of the design and research activity of student in the classroom and in extracurricular time and gave students the opportunity to build gradually an individual educational trajectory of the development, moving from the low (compulsory) level to the medium (level of opportunities) and then to the advanced (creative) level; theoretically based and worked out the method of forming design and research competence of students at the agricultural colleges in teaching physics based on the systematic and gradually organized the design and research activity and the integration of the natural science knowledge.
