Kryvenko Y. Contribution of Academician O.V. Fomin in the development of biological science in Ukraine in the late XIX – early XX century.

The thesis deals with the establishment and development of biological science in Ukraine in the late XIX – first half of XX century. There were emphasized the basic life stages, research and teaching activities of the famous botanist, morphologist, taxonomist, Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences O.V. Fomin. O.V. Fomin was involved in the organization of two botanical gardens in Tbilisi and Kyiv, founded the Botanical Herbarium at the office and HUAS, and was the director of the Institute of Botany of the USSR Academy of Sciences. The scientist has organized the publication “Tbilissi Botanical Garden Journal", "Bulletin of the Kiev Botanical Garden". He made a significant contribution to the study of the flora of Ukraine, developed botanical and geographical zoning of Ukraine, and studied bryophytes and lichens. The research proposed periodization of life and activities of Academician O.V. Fomin, analyzed the origins, formation and development of his scientific school. Based on the maps synthesis of natural botanical-geographical zones of Ukraine O.V. Fomin has developed an integrated graphics circuit. Showing an integral objective picture of scientific interests and achievements of the scientist allowed studying his 88 scientific papers.
