Object - process of foreign language training of future English teachers by means of Poetic Texts. Purpose - theoretically and practically elaborate the methodology of developing English lexical competency of future teachers by means of authentic poetic texts. Methods - theoretical, empirical, statistic. Theoretical results and novelty - the methodology of developing English lexical competency of future teachers by means of authentic poetic texts has been theoretically substatiated and elaborated. The essence of the concept ‘English lexical competency of future teachers-philologists’ which is formed on the basis of poetic texts has been defined; the psychological peculiarities of learning English words of poetic style have been determined; the linguistic characteristics of English poetical works as the source of developing English lexical competency of future teachers-philologists have been specified; the linguo-didactic model of developing English lexical competency of future teachers by мeans of authentic poetic texts have been elaborated; the corresponding system of exercises has been modelled. The criteria, evaluative indicators and levels of developing English lexical competency of future teachers by means of authentic poetic texts have been defined. The effectiveness of the suggested methodology has been verified and confirmed in the course of experimental teaching. The methods of learning vocabulary of future philologists’ have been further developed. Practical results - the system of exercises based on the matched authentic poetic material and aimed at the formation of the English lexical competency of future teachers has been modelled; guidelines for the formation of the English lexical competency of future teachers by means of authentic poetic texts have been elaborated; special practical course "Learning Vocabulary through Poetry" for the third year students of the faculty of foreign languages has been developed; dictionary of English poetic terms was compiled. Efficiency of introduction is high. Branch - pedagogical, higher educational establishments.
