Bulakhovskyi K. The Ukrainian language in software localization (normative aspect)

The thesis makes a comprehensive analysis of functioning of the Ukrainian language within the normative aspect of localization of the software most popular among Ukrainian users. The state of Ukrainian localization development has been described; the reasons preventing it have been revealed. This paper pays attention to commonly used and special components of Ukrainian text-based interfaces. The first component includes orthographic, lexical, grammatical and stylistic standards, the second one - terminology standards. Violation of the said standards have been established and studied. Subjective and objective factors of the occurrence have been determined. The correct options have been provided for the detected violations; recommendations have been given for optimization of both existing and future Ukrainian localizations. Besides, suggestions of general nature aimed at strengthening and consolidation of the Ukrainian language in software localization have been provided.
