The thesis deals with the problem of teaching professional writing for science and technology to MA students of linguistic specialities. The study of approaches to teaching academic writing is offered which is the basis for teaching professional writing for science and technology to MA students of linguistic specialties. The aim, content and principles are detailed to guarantee the effective functioning of the suggested approaches. The linguistic peculiarities of scientific discourse are presented which pertain to the issues of academic and scientific discourse contiguity, culture-bound characteristics of scientific discourse, genre peculiarities of English conference abstract and scientific article. In terms of the practical research, material selection for teaching professional writing for science and technology to MA students of linguistic specialties is carried out. The exercise requirements on the levels of instruction, performance, and control are detailed to form the theoretical basis for the subsystem of exercises for teaching professional writing for science and technology to MA students of linguistic specialities. Both the subsystem and the model of learning organization are put into practice. The experimental teaching has proved the validity of the suggested methodology; its optimal edition is substantiated. Methodological recommendations to teachers for organizing teaching professional writing for science and technology to MA students of linguistic specialities have been developed.
