Essay

Object: spring cycle of the folk calendar of Ukrainians of historical and ethnographic Volhynia. Objective: complex historical and ethnographic characteristics and scientific analysis of the spring calendar-household rituals of Ukrainians of historical and ethnographic Volhynia of the second half of XIX – beginning of XXI centuries. Methods: historical and chronological, retrospective, historical and comparative, systematic, structural analysis. Results: for the first time made an attempt a comprehensive study of the spring calendar-household rituals of Ukrainians of historical and ethnographic Volhynia as a whole ritual and customs system, in scientific circulation introduced a significant amount of new ethnographic material discovered during field research, unpublished archival sources; defined the structural components of the spring calendar-household rituals, which may be crucial for ethnographic specificity of Volhynia. Sphere of use: for further historical and ethnographic studies of local history and Volhynia region, writing of generalizing monograph about the folk calendar of Ukrainians or some of its components, preparation of synthetic papers, manuals from ethnology of Ukraine and elaboration of appropriate lecture courses for higher educational establishments.
