In dissertation the analysis of scientific, engineering, organizational and public activity of prominent domestic інженера-гідротехніка, scientist is given in industry of railway transport of V.V. Salov, him historical value and merits in development of hydrotechnical science and railway transport in the second half of ХІХ - поч. ХХ of centuries. Systematizing a various spring material, an author represents the picture of development of the hydraulic engineering and railway transport in the Russian empire and in Ukraine, in particular, comparing a process with foreign. It is well-proven that scientific and pedagogical work of scientist became the background of development of new ideas and projects in relation to further technical researches.
