The thesis examines the impact of German social market economy on the formation of a competition, monetary and social policy of the European Union. The socio-economic factors of the Member States economic convergence are defined. The cluster groups of the EU Member-States in 2000 and 2012 are formed. The study proves that the German social market economic system is the core of the economic system of the EU.
