The thesis is devoted to the comprehensive study of the research and professional activity of M.I. Kotov who is an outstanding Ukrainian scientist in the field of Botanical science. The research represents the periodization of life and creative career of the scientist, it discloses circumstances and key factors of his scientific position formation, clarifies and describes M.I. Kotov’s scientific and organizational work at USSR research institutions, analyses the main directions of scientific research in the field of botanical and agricultural science, and wildlife conservation, shows M.I. Kotov’s contribution to the development of national and world botany.
