Essay

The research based on comprehensive analysis of archival, published sources and existing literature reveals contribution by K.G. Huslystiy (1902-1973) in the studies of ethnic history of Ukraine, Ukrainian Soviet ethnography formation of the post-war pe-riod. Huslystyi's scientific approach to preparing of the generalizing books "Ukrainians" and "Regional Historical and Ethnographic Atlas of Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova" are considered. The periods of formation of his historical and ethnographic views on the Ukrainian nation are defined. The scholary views, political and ideological issues that influenced Huslystyi's concepts are analyzed. Special attention is paid to the scientific and organizational work by K.G. Huslystiy in Ukrainian ethnography, including facili-tating the resumption of field research, training of qualified specialists, research problems. The research deals with the content of scientists epistolary heritage as an additional source for Huslystyi scientific contacts with Ukrainian and Russian counterparts.
