Essay

Based on a comprehensive and holistic impartial investigation, the exclusivity and originality of Kyiv Architecture of 1920?1930 in a global context was established. The paper discusses the major trends inherent in the global architectural progress of 1920?1930. By analyzing, comparing and contrasting the key facilities, the ties, influences, role of Kyiv architecture in the Ukrainian SSR architecture, which was an integral part of artistic field of the USSR, and was included in the global architectural and artistic process, were identified. Both the numerous international and multicultural communications and distinctive artistic tradition of the national historically adapted modernity were noted. As a result of a thorough study of creative achievements of the leading architects of the USSR in 1920?1930, it was proved that a departure from the rationalism and constructivism through the postconstructivism and assertion of neoclassicism domination advocated a natural phenomenon of artistic style rotation through the change of cultural and social background. The idea of the entirely prescriptive nature of the specified style change was refuted. The gradual transition from avant-garde to the neoclassical architecture of artistic range was analyzed. The relation was identified and the parallels between the Western European, North American and Soviet architecture were uncovered. The numerous contacts, influences borrowings and identical artistic processes were identified, which allow us to state that the architecture of Kyiv is an integral part of the global architectural and artistic development.
