Essay

It is determined that "the theater of absurdity" is a phenomenon of modern literature, which emerged on the basis of modernism and absorbed features of the avant-garde. The creative heritage of representatives of "Rozstriliane vidrodgennya" and Ukrainian Art Movement in the European context are examined, particularly in measurements of the poetics of absurdity. The formants of the poetics of absurdity in N. Kulish's plays are found such as grotesque characters, paradoxes, symbols and existential motifs. However, these plays do not have all features of absurd drama - heroes' actions in N. Kulish's plays are logical and the plot unfolds traditionally. In contrast I. Kostetsky's plays have all basic principles of the poetics of absurdity - rich linguistic puns and word play, puppet characters, illogical actions, destructive plot.
