The thesis focuses on researching the methodology of teaching senior pupils of profession-oriented schools specialized in foreign languages listening comprehension of video reports in English. The research provides the analysis of theoretical prerequisites of teaching listening comprehension of video reports in English. The notions journalistic text and video report have been specified; the structure, components, verbal and nonverbal characteristics of video reports have been analyzed. The main difficulties which students may come across while watching the reports in English have been specified. Necessary for successful reports' comprehension knowledge and skills have been determined. The criteria for selecting video reports have been outlined. The system of exercises and tasks of teaching senior pupils listening comprehension of video reports in English has been substantiated and elaborated. It comprises three subgroups: for gaining knowledge about reports, for forming skills of comprehending reports and for developing skills of comprehending video reports in English. Four stages of teaching senior pupils listening comprehension of video reports in English have been introduced.
