Object - the process of developing linguosociocultural competence of future philologists while reading English fiction. Purpose - to ground, to elaborate and to test the efficiency of methodology of developing linguosociocultural competence of future philologists while reading English fiction. Methods - theoretical, empirical and statistical. Theoretical results and novelty - for the first time the methods of developing linguosociocultural competence of future philologists while reading English fiction were scientifically substantiated and worked out. The content of teaching future philologists to understand non-verbal means of communication while reading English fiction has been structured as the entity of particular sociocultural knowledge and language skills. The concept of "a non-verbal signal in fiction" has been defined. The specific features of the nominations of non-verbal signals in contemporary English fiction have been analysed. The psychological aspects of developing linguosociocultural competence of future philologists while reading English fiction have been revealed. The system of exercises has been developed. The principles of selecting texts for developing linguosociocultural competence of future philologists while reading English fiction have been singled out and systematized. The efficiency of the methodology has been verified and confirmed in the course of experimental teaching. Practical results - a system of exercises and a special course in teaching humanities students "How to Read Non-Verbal Signals in Literature" have been developed. Efficiency of introduction is high. Branch - pedagogical, higher educational establishments.
