The research provides theoretical substantiation and practical elaboration of the methodology of teaching students majoring in Translation to make two way consecutive interpretation in financial-banking sphere. The author defines the concept of ‘interpreter’s competence’ and its components; carries out a number of empirical studies to establish the relative weight of factors considered relevant to major interpreters’ associations’ quality judgments in interpreting; reviews financial-banking discourse in order to select teaching material and studies the peculiarities of neurophysiologic, psychological and psycholinguistic mechanisms supporting the process of two way consecutive interpretation. The effectiveness of the suggested methodology was verified and confirmed during the experimental teaching. The author developed a battery of exercises for teaching students majoring in Translation to make two way consecutive translation in financial and banking spheres, as well as the model of the said teaching and recommendations for the use of abovementioned methodology, and the evaluation criteria to assess the quality of two way consecutive discourse interpretation.
