The thesis researches psychological and pedagogical background of increase of first-year students' intellectual performance in adaptation period. Specificity of intellectual performance of students and psychological and pedagogical conditions of its development in the adaptation period have been researched. Criteria, levels as well as the indicators of the above mentioned phenomenon have been determined. The system of psychological and pedagogical activities, aimed at increasing the level of intellectual performance of the first year students in the period of adaptation, have been substantiated, developed, tested and implemented.
