Bilyakovskyy P. Traditional Meteorology of the Carpathian Ukrainians

Object: traditional knowledges and concepts in the Ukrainians of Carpathians about the weather in the system of other people's knowledges. Objective: comprehensive historical and ethnographic characteristics of meteorological concepts that previously existed and in our time take place in the Ukrainians of Carpathians. Methods: special ethnological methods of field research, synchronous, typological, comprehensive, comparative and historical, structural and functional analysis, mapping. Results: for the first time in Ukrainian ethnological science conducted the integral historical and ethnographic research of traditional meteorological knowledges and believes in the Ukrainians of Carpathians, in scientific publications and dissertation put a large amount of new factual material discovered in the process of field ethnographic research, identified the local specific of traditional methods of meteorological forecasting that existed in the Ukrainians of Carpathians, defines the role and influences of economic advisers XVIII-XIX centuries on people's methods for prediction of weather, improved method of collecting and analyzing of local manifestations of signs, ceremonies, prohibitions and regulations, typological approaches for illumination of rituals associated with meteorological magic, the study of the evolution of the main methods of long-term weather predictions. Scope: for further thorough investigation of traditional Ukrainian meteorology and preparation of generalizing monograph and also for developing of specialized courses on people's knowledges, folk demonology, calendar rites.
