The history of the oxymoron studies in poetics, rhetoric, stylistics is monitored in the given work. The term oxymoron syntagma has been defined. It has been ascertained that oxymoron syntagmas are based on the linguistic contrast that is the principle of structural and semantic poetic text arrangement. Lexico-semantic oxymoron types have been analyzed; oxymoron syntagmas with the key opposable lexemes, typical for the poetic language have been singled out. The mechanism of oxymoron syntagmas formation has been studied. Structural and grammatical types, namely oxymorons - compound words; oxymorons - word combinations; oxymorons with the sentence structure have been determined. Semantic and stylistic oxymoron functions as the device of the implementation of the aesthetic poetic language function have been described.
