Object -the process of foreign language training of senior pupils of gymnasia by using drama activity. Purpose - to ground theoretically and approve experimentally the methodology of developing English lexical competence in senior pupils of gymnasia by using drama activity. Methods - theoretical, empirical, statistic. Theoretical results and novelty - The concept "English lexical competence of senior pupils" which is formed on the basis of drama activity has been defined; the methods of teaching foreign language vocabulary in pedagogical theory and practice have been analyzed, their practical importance and spare capacities have been determined; the psychological peculiarities of developing English lexical competence in senior pupils by using drama activity have been determined. The linguodidactic model of developing English lexical competence in senior pupils of gymnasia by using drama activity has been elaborated; the corresponding system of exercises has been modelled. The criteria, evaluative indicators and levels of developing English lexical competence in senior pupils of gymnasia by using drama activity have been defined. Practical results - a system of exercises for developing English lexical competence in senior pupils of gymnasia by using drama activity and a study guide ofr its realization have been worked out; a textbook "Drama activity as a means of teaching English lexical competence" and an English-Ukrainian dictionary of drama terminology for senior pupils of gymnasia have been developed; English textual material ofr drama activity has been selected. Efficiency of introduction is high. Branch - pedagogical, higher educational establishments.
