Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the research of the Old Russian sites of Western Podillia. It defines the questions of settling of this territory and distinguishes main types of the sites and their principal features. The paper systematizes information about archaeological antiquities of Western Podillia in X - XIII c. in the shape of a catalogue, maps of archaeological sites, tables and drawings. The scientific work analyses the dynamics of the territory settling, reasons of settlements and fortified settlements increasing in the second half of the XII th - and the first half of the XIII th c. It describes inside building of ancient settlements and the questions of localization of annalistic settlements Terebovlia, Zbarazh, Moklekiv, Bykoven and Mykulyn. The paper defines peculiarities of some sacral objects - burial sites, cave Christian temples, fortified settlements with atypical objects researched by I.P.Rusanova and B.O.Tymoshchuk who regarded them to be heathen ones. The author of this scientific work analyses ceramic complexes of the second half of the X th - XI th c. and the second half of the XII th - and the first half of the XIII th c. New sources are introduced into scientific circulation.
