The thesis deals with the problem of teaching profession specific bilateral translation with the translation proficiency language portfolio to student teachers of English in the master's programme. Сurrent state of scientific thought on the issue of teaching translation to students of language departments is analyzed; the psycholinguistic background for teaching profession specific bilateral translation with the language portfolio to student teachers of English is studied; the structure and contents of student teachers of English profession specific competence in bilateral translation are defined; the contents of translation proficiency language portfolio are specified. The teaching material selection is carried out; the system of learning activities aimed at the development of profession specific competence in bilateral translation with the translation proficiency language portfolio is presented; the model of the teaching process is introduced. The validity of the methodology is proved by the results of the experimental teaching, its optimal edition is substantiated; methodological recommendations are developed.
