Essay

The work reveals results of the research on peculiarities of growth, development and establishment of yield capacity of red beet, depending on a seeding time, plants density and type of cover. The research has determined qualitative indicators of red beet, carried out economic and energy estimation of elements of a technology of red beet cultivation in the western forest steppe of Ukraine. The highest yield was demonstrated by Efiop breed, which made the least dependence on a seeding time. However, the maximum yield was got by Andromeda breed in case of seeding in the first decade of April, i.e. 72,9 ton/ha. We have made investigation on biochemical content of red beet of the following breeds Bahrianyi, Bordo kharkivskyi, Dii, Efiop, Torpedo, Tsitadela. Bahrianyi breed demonstrated the highest content of vitamin C, sugar and common dry substances, but also the largest amount of fibre. Torpedo and Efiop had the largest content of protein. Amount of nitrates did not exceed a maximum critical level. Number of microelements changed depending on both a breed and seeding time and type of cover. Different types of cover (polyethylene foil, agrofiber) influences time of getting bunch products and obtaining some better economic effect. To obtain high yield of bunch products of red beet with the highest profitability it is recommended to apply a pre-winter seeding time. The most economically profitable density of cultivation of red beet is determined to be 369 thou. plants/ha of Bordo kharkivskyi breed.
