Essay

After the collapse of the bipolar system of international relations, build-up of defense capabilities, high rate of economic growth, increase of global and regional role are becoming immanent for the PRC. At the same time it should be noted that a number of strategic interests of the U.S. and China are at the intersection of axes of rivalry or implicit confrontation, particularly the issue of the Taiwan status is characterized by non-linearity. Relevance of the strategy of China's containment and engagement (congagement) determines the U.S. foreign policy activities to a large extent; it combines the elements of classical doctrine of containment and engagement. Genesis of congagement strategy falls on the end of XX - beginning of XXI century, when members of the RAND corporation agreed to combine two concepts into one strategy.
