Essay

Thesis is devoted to the actual psychological problem of studying mechanisms of psychological self-protection of the teenage individual. It is proved that adaptive psychological self-defense of the personality influences the ability of the personality to overcome successfully internal and external conflicts. It also affects the ability to apply constructive strategies for coping with critical situations, flexibility and tolerance to the opposite position, ability for self-determination. In its turn, lack of self-awareness, prevalence of unconscious defense mechanisms, conformity, a low level of control and self-control behavior is characteristic for the non-adaptive passive type of psychological self-protection. The study confirmed the hypothesis that the psychological self-defense of teenager is a complicated process that involves a complex of psychological defenses: coping strategies, styles of behavior and personality life sceneries. They ensure the effectiveness of behavior at different levels of mental life (the conscious and unconscious). Positive results of the development and implementation of the programme to build constructive adaptive forms of psychological self-defense of teens are proved. The foundation of this programme is such the psychological factors as self-evaluation and self-regulation, the development of constructive communication and organizational skills, tolerance to uncertainty of the situation, the ability to predict.
