Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the study of physiological age-related changes of gastrointestinal tract structure and function and the means for their correction. It was found that stomach and colon motor activity of rats decreases with age. Due to experiments it was shown that the nanocrystalline cerium dioxide (NCD) had prokinetic effect on the rats' stomach and colon motor activity in both age groups. NCD saved prokinetic properties after 10-day administration compared to well-known prokinetics (sinode and metoclopromid (cerucal)). Age-related changes in motor activity of stomach and colon were restored due to normalization of actomyosin complex functioning. NCD restored pro/antioxidant balance in homogenates of stomach and colon and blood serum. It also repaired morphological state of mucous membranes and muscle of the stomach and colon in aged rats after 10 days administration.
