Object - the process of the foreign language training of future financiers. Purpose - to justify theoretically and to test experimentally the method of developing English lexical competence of future financiers in the process of reading professionally oriented texts. Methods - theoretical, empirical and statistical. Theoretical results and novelty - for the first time the method of developing English lexical competence of future financiers in the process of reading professionally oriented texts is scientifically grounded and experimentally tested. The essence of the concept "the English lexical competence" regarding specialists of financial and economic profile has been defined. The available methods of developing English lexical competence of future specialists of different profiles have been studied and analysed. The linguistic features of the financial and economic English texts have been defined and psychological mechanisms of the lexical structure learning have been determined. The three-stage linguodidactic model of English lexical competence in the process of reading professionally oriented texts that holds three phases: linguistic-starter, linguistic-educational, linguistic and professional has been elaborated and validated. The criteria (linguistic-cognitive, structural and semantic, communicative and professional) and evaluation of English lexical competence of future financiers have been elaborated. Three levels (high, medium, low) in developing English lexical competence of future financiers have been determined. The essence of the concept "the English financial and economic text" in its methodological aspect has been specified. The further method development is integrated education and professional foreign language communication. Practical results - a system of exercises with the developing English lexical competence of future financiers in the process of reading professionally oriented texts and the guidelines for its implementation have been worked out. The textbook "English for financiers" for 2nd-year students and the English-Ukrainian Dictionary of foreign words in the specialty "Finance" have been worked out. The results of the research can be used in teaching such courses as "Foreign Language", "Foreign Language for Professional Use", "Business Foreign Language" as well as the development of syllabi and textbooks for students of economic specialties. Degree of implementation - high. Field (area of application) - pedagogical, higher education institutions.
