Essay

The research object was a Ukrainian and Russian newspapers content about Ukraine-Russia relations. The goal was to reveal socio-cultural senses of the Ukraine-Russia conceptual model presented in Ukrainian and Russian media. To elaborate the scientific problem and to fulfill the tasks of the dissertation the range of methods was used on the different stages of the investigation, particularly documental analysis, synthesis, classification, generalization, comparison, description, content analysis, actantial analysis. On the basis of the textual analysis, there were identified the topical ratings of the Ukraine-Russia relations covering in Ukrainian and Russian media. It was also revealed that nationwide media which belong to different owners and are based on different editorial policies, though oriented on the same society, can interpret international relations on a basis of similar actantial models. At the same time, important interpretational differences were found concerning the assignment of functions to Ukraine and Russia as actors of media narratives about international relations. The results can be used for the development and correction of the national informational strategy as well as strategies of particular media for the covering of Ukraine-Russia relations. Presented findings, main theoretical points, and conclusions can be used for textbooks, handbooks, and other educational materials for lectures and seminars in specialized courses for students studying journalism.
