Tsurkan M. Ethnographic Research in Lviv in the late 30s – 50s of the XX century

Object: ethnographic studies of scholars-ethnographers of Lviv in the late 30s – 50s years of XX century. Objective: to highlight the scientific activities of Lviv ethnographers in the context of socio-political processes in Western Ukraine in the late 1930s –1950s. Methods: comparative-historical, historiographical analysis and synthesis, problem-chronological, historical, narrative interviews. Results: for the first time comprehensively solved process of the transition from Western ethnographic school to the Soviet, singled out social and political processes and factors that determined the direction and influenced on the further course of ethnographic research and obtained results, conducted comprehensive analysis of ethnology research of Lviv ethnographers in given period, improved study of sources and historiographical material on the history of ethnography functioning in Western Ukraine during 1930-1950 years, characterization etnosotsiokulturnyh transformations in Lviv scientific branch, which took place under the influence of Soviet ideology. Scope: to prepare a synthesis of research on the history of Ukrainian ethnology, writing scientific papers and textbooks, as well as for the development of courses and disciplines for historical faculties of universities.
