Essay

It is proven that available quantitative instruments fail to predict macroeconomic crises in historical retrospect. An early warning indicator is introduced based on unit labour cost, its robustness verified with multifactor regression analysis. Relative introduction speed of different sets of Basel committee recommendations is assessed. Approaches to state regulation of the national banking system, allowing countries with developing markets to boost resilience of national financial systems, have been identified.
