Object - the personality who learns himself in the course of self-development; the purpose - to define psychological regularities and mechanisms of process of self-knowledge as cognitive and semantic basis of self-development of the identity of the student, and also the psychology and pedagogical principles and ways of its development; methods - theoretical (the analysis, judgment, systematization and generalization), empirical (supervision, conversation, poll, questioning, testing, the content analysis, expert estimation, long-term educational experiment which was made in higher education institution), mathematical and statistical methods of data processing; novelty - empirical model which recreates stages and psychological mechanisms of process of self-knowledge of the identity of the student is for the first time created; the instrument of display of process of self-knowledge of the identity of the student in dynamics in the context of interaction of personal meanings, individual resources and the chosen strategy of self-development is developed on the basis of the feedback received from empirical model; significant correlations between a level of development of self-knowledge and efficiency of self-development and width of cognitive and semantic orientation of the identity of the student are for the first time revealed; there are gained further development: theoretical principles of studying of self-knowledge as cognitive and semantic basis of self-development of the identity of the student; integration of the directions of psychological researches of self-knowledge on the basis of application of "technology of imposing of cognitive structures" for an exteriorization of dynamics of process of self-knowledge of the identity of the student; there are improved: modeling of a situation of self-knowledge for implementation of research of its psychological mechanisms in the conditions of daily occurrence and training; technology of training on the basis of metacognitive approach where the self-knowledge acts as a cognitive basis of self-development of the identity of the student who resolves a choice of optimum strategy according to personal meanings and resources; results - the technology of inclusion of self-knowledge in process of training and the tool ("Model of interaction of factors of development of the personality") which displays process of self-knowledge of the identity of the student in dynamics in the context of interaction of personal meanings, individual resources and the chosen strategy of self-development for realization of meanings are developed. The tool allows to realize purposeful self-knowledge in the conditions of training in higher education institution; provisions and practical development can be applied in practice of psychological service of the higher school; area - psychology.
