Object of study: international competitiveness of tourist regions. Aim: development of theoretical and methodological approaches to determining the characteristics of the international competitiveness of the tourist regions of the world and on this basis working out scientific and practical recommendations towards optimizing the participation of the national economy in the European tourist region. Methods: methods of theoretical generalization, analysis and synthesis, method of comparison, statistical and economic and mathematical methods. Scientific novelty: the levels of tourist regions of the world in terms of their hierarchical structure are systematized; approaches to the definition of "international tourist region" are improved; competitive factors influencing the international competitiveness of the tourist regions are grounded; the algorithm of the international competitiveness of tourist regions estimation based on calculation of integral index of their effectiveness is offered; complex of organizational and economic measures to ensure the international competitiveness of the tourist regions is grounded; the system of mutually agreed instruments of influence on the national tourism industry is proposed. The research results are implemented in practical activities of the Department of Economy of Donetsk Regional State Administration, Department of Culture and Tourism of Mariupol City Council, the Mariupol Branch of Donetsk Chamber of Commerce, LLC "Sputnik", Hotel complex "Poseidon", in the educational process of the Mariupol State University.
